Happy New Year!!

I hope everyone had a great New Year!!  We had a fabulous dinner at Ruth’s Chris with a few friends. Great tip for anyone headed to Ruth’s Chris: they do not charge a corking fee, so you can save a few bucks and bring your own wine.  We brought a bottle we bought back in 2008 on a trip to Napa.  Luckily it was just as good as we remembered!! Here’s to a happy and healthy...

Christmas 2012

Hey Y’all!!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!  Ours was filled with lots of fun time with our families.  We are very fortunate that both our parents live in Charlotte and it is easy to spend time with both our families.  We always spend Christmas Eve with Eric’s family and Christmas day with my family.  We had a great time with everyone and also enjoyed lots of delicious food!  Here are a few pics from Christmas day:

Sick All Weekend

Sick All Weekend

Well this weekend was a complete bust!  Friday, I had a sore throat that got worse and worse throughout the day.  Yesterday, I woke up feeling miserable with a full blown cold.  I stocked up on all the essentials: and have been drinking lots of juice and hot tea.  I’m hoping this cold doesn’t last much longer! My husband on the other hand has been a busy busy bee!  He made a huge batch of meatloaf using the  McCormick and Schmick’s cookbook: He also made a batch of homemade Chorizo using our Kitchen Aid mixer with the...

Getting back on Track after Thanksgiving

Getting back on Track after Thanksgiving

I don’t k now about the rest of you, but after having 5 days off around Thanksgiving it was really tough for me to get back to the swing of things today.  Work was crazy and it definitely did not help that I decided to try and forgo my morning coffee.  I have been cutting back on my caffeine intake for the past few months and have it down to just one coffee in the morning.  I have been toying with the idea of trying to cut out caffeine all together but after dealing with a headache all day today I am questioning whether or not I...

Thanksgiving 2012

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!  Ours was wonderful and Eric and I had so much fun hosting! Last week my cousin Sasha and I went shopping together to pick up all of the decorations for our table.  On Wednesday Sasha and my mom came over and we spent a few hours together setting the table and cooking a few things. Our table turned out beautiful and the three of us had lots of fun working on it together! Here are the links to a few of the recipes that I made : Baked Brie Bites Stuffed Mushrooms Warm Pimiento Cheese...

What happens when you don’t fully read a recipe…

I couldn’t decide if I should share this cooking experience with you since it didn’t turn out as I was expecting.  However, I learned a valuable lesson so I figured I should share with you guys.  Tuesday night while watching all the election results come in, I decided to make a batch of homemade granola.  This is something I have been wanting to try for some time now and I figured it wasn’t too labor intensive so it wouldn’t take me away from the TV for too long.  I found these three recipes:   coconut...

Grocery Shopping

Grocery Shopping

I thought I would share with all of you how I do my weekly grocery shopping.  I like to buy as much fresh produce as possible, but I also don’t want to break the bank each week.  I have found the best way to handle my grocery shopping is to buy my produce and some other items at one of the cheaper places in town.  During the summer, I usually go to the farmers market and buy whatever looks fresh, is reasonable, and sounds good for the week.  The rest of the year or times I can’t make it to the market, I usually shop at Trader...

Magazine Love

About 3 or 4 years ago while I was at the beach with some girlfriends, we all stopped in a store to pick up a few magazines to read at the beach.  I remember picking up a copy of the latest Woman’s Day and my friends laughing at my choice.  They all thought we were too young to be reading that magazine.  I tried to tell them otherwise but I’m pretty sure I was the only one that read it during that trip.  Fast forward to yesterday, when I received the November issue of Woman’s Day.  It was full of recipes that I want...

BBQ & Blues

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend!  The weather in Charlotte has been beautiful, cool in the mornings, sunny in the afternoon, and cool again in the evening.  Perfect fall weather!  Yesterday we decided to stop by the BBQ & Blues Festival at the NC Music Factory.  We figured we could get lunch and wander around for a few hours. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but unfortunately we were both pretty disappointed and unimpressed with everything.  When you first walked in there wasn’t anyone to explain what was...

Kittens at Work

I had a very interesting day at work today.  I arrived at the office and noticed a box in the natural area beside our building.  At first I thought “That’s nice Office Depot, just leave my order in the rain. ”  I got out of my car and walked towards the box and noticed it was partially opened and “breakable” was written all over it.  I was completely perplexed and peeped inside and this is what I found… Except they were in a soaking wet box and there wasn’t a blanket.  I was floored!  Who leaves...
